Default Honda fourtrax ticking

I have an old fourtrax 300 4x4. I jus got it rebuilt and got it cranked up, but now I have a tick in the engine. As I rev it up, the ticking revs up too. It also has white smoke coming out. It also gets worse when I rev it up. Any suggestion on the problem and a solution.

welcome to the forum !
where is the ticking low end of the motor - in the middle of the cylinder or on top of the head ?
as for the smoke did you replace the valve seals ?

it sounds more like middle of the motor. Im not sure but I don't think the seals got replaced, guess I should of thought about that on. I got it bored out and changed all the lower gaskets but didn't think about the valve seals!

that could be your smoking problem if you didnt replace your valve seals

Possibly the timing chain on the ticking noise. You can play with the adjuster and see if it gets better/worse when turning the adjuster screw.

no I sure didn't adjust it yet, I'm not quite sure where exactly to adjust it at. I'm gonna have to get some valve seals and change them!

Ok I adjusted the valves, and it's still ticking. It sounds more like the upper part of the motor. Any ideas what it could be now? And I messed with the chain tensioner and that didn't help..
