Are you wanting to build a custom bumper to replace the one on it? If so do you want more of a smaller grab bar type of bumper or something that says "get the **** out of the way because I ride a Honda and have water in my brakes"?

It as an option and not really needed for normal riding. I have installed a few but that was for guys spraying or moving cattle, pretty much not moving fast so no air is going across the motor.

This is what the 88 4x4 looked like when it came out. Not much of a bumper on them.

I found a really rough 88 300 2wd sitting behind a friends barn when I was riding the last time out.
It looks to be all there but has been sitting soooo long that the rims are half buried in the ground.
Upon inspection, somebody has welded the rear rims to the hubs and then welded the hubs to the axles, no seat cover to speak of, one of the front a-arms are bent, but the engine is free and it has keys in the ignition.
We pay my buddy to ride on his property and when I went to pay him I asked about the bike out back.
He told me it hasnt run in many years and the last time it ran it smoked badly and fouled a plug every ride.
I asked him if he wanted to sell it and at first he said 100 bux and I can haul it off but I bartered a lil bit and I can pick it up any time for 75 bux.
Before leaving I rolled back by this bike to give it one more look over and as I was walking up to the bike I almost tripped and fell on it!lol
Turns out that somebody tried hooking up to the front bumper to yank it out of its resting spot and took the bumper right off and it too was almost buried in the ground.
This bike is a gray one and its not going anywhere so Im gonna wait until I find another one for cheap and then make one out of the two.

If it's gray it should be a 4x4 unless someone switched the tank and plastics. They only made red in the 2x4 up to 93.

TooDeep,Im pretty positive its grey but it might be sunfaded?
One thing for sure (and I forgot to mention in my prior post)is that the tank is gray and is in mint condition decals and all and if it wasnt for the tank I probably wouldnt have noticed the hunk of junk!lol

Im, gonna take a minute and look at my Honda identification guide.(Bible)

Well holy crap you are right!! I know for sure the tag on the frame said 1988 so unless its a 4x4 with some stuff missing?
Somebody has replaced the body parts at one time.
Im pretty sure its a 2wd tho because the side of it that I had the best view of was the left side of bike and Im sure I would have seen something that said 4x4 and would have snapped it up that day! lol
I have a set of beat up rims and tires leftover from my 450 project, will these fit this older 300? thanx

Yep, wheels and tires will work on it. I would go take a closer look at it and if there is a tree close use a pulley system to pull it out of the ground (might be a real pain right now though if your ground is as frozen as ours).

Oh yeah!!, That thing is staying where its at for now!
Soon as I get done with with my Johndeere 826 snowblower project and my issues with my Foreman im going after it!
Having tires (bald) and rims to make this thing mobile will definately be a plus!
Cant wait to see what I do with a welded hub rearend!lol
Thanx TooDeep!
