Default 1988 Honda Foreman

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. I recently picked up a 1988 Foreman. Its runs decent but needed front and rear wheel bearings and brakes. In the course of starting on these issues, I found the differentials (front and rear) full of rusty/dirty diff fluid. I knew right away I would be replacing all the bearings and seals. I have the front diff broken down and even got the pinion and bearing out. What I haven't been able to get out is the pinion needle bearing in the casting. I've tried getting the small clip out through the hole, but can't grab it. I even welded a piece of threaded rod to the bearing race. I'm able to turn the race, but still unable to grab that clip. Any ideas or suggestions on getting that pesky little bugger out? Thanks in advance.

Thanks man, I'll try that. I was using a Dremel with a small cone-shaped grinding stone. It barely scratched the surface. Where did you get the carbide bit? Just a small drill bit? Did you just keep turning the race and drill through all around it? I have to admit, I was so frustrated today, I was ready to look at new. I just have an affinity for old Foremans.

Thanks man. I'll go to Home Depot tomorrow and see if they have the bit. Did you just grind out the ring, or take material off the race too?

It is #21. I've already widened the hole (the one in the side of the casting to pull the clip through) a tiny bit from the first try with the stone bit. I have not tried grinding from the inside of the race out. (Haven't knicked the casting that the bearing presses into. It's a 350D. I'll try and post some pics.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Went to Home Depot this morning and got the carbide bit. A little grinding on the ring and a tug with the home made bearing puller and it finally came out. My new parts should be in this week and hopefully I can get it back together. Then I have to do the rear diff.... Hope it will all be worth the time, money and effort.
