So i just bought a 300 4x4 today in blue from the original owner for $825 ........the good... it runs and starts (both kick and electronic) with a new battery. 4 new tires, a 48in manual lift plow (old school and original) now the bad ..... the front plastics are a little faded and it wont shift out of neutral ..... toodeep what do you think is wrong with it ? .....I have it sold already for $1800 on Friday if I can get this trans problem fixed ........>:)

It won't shift at all (reverse as well)? Pull the left cover and I bet the shift arm/plate is cracked and not turning the shift drum. Inspect the stopper bolt while your there. I've had many of them break as well and a few that broke the case.

Yes and no. The plate is part of the shift shaft and plate might not be a good name for it since it is the shift shaft. The 300 uses a drum on the shift drum with spring loaded pieces in it that the shift shaft rotates. Once you take the cover off you'll see everything and see how it works. Don't worry either, shift shaft can be pulled out and reinstalled without worrying about anything on the right side. Just don't loose the washer that will stick to the case.

I had some truck troubles and couldn't pick up the 300 until today .......1st off it's a 1990 300 4x4 not a 93 like I was told .... 2nd the plastics have a few cracks in them (once again more then I was told about ....I picked it up for $700 (150 less then he wanted) and the shifter just flops around like there's no tension ........ may be a bad shifter shaft and spring ....will know more Monday , I am off for the next 2 days

funny story ..... as I was loading it up I asked the guy what was in the trunk ? he says there's no trunk ... I opened it up to show him and found every thing that the dealership threw in there in dec of 89 .....lol The tools, extra spark plug , 2nd key on key ring and owners manual in the condition when bought lol

the pic trick worked on getting the broken shifter stud out ....took me 5 mins but good to go now just waiting on parts .....I also tried the paint thinner & boiled linseed oil to remove the sun damage from the plastics .....the fenders laughed at it and it looks like I will be scraping the plastics with a razor blade and a heat gun which sucks rocks .....

The razor/heat thing dies suck but it will look good when selling it. With the easy fix you needed some extra work. lol make sure you have the front end jacked up when reinstalling the center drive shaft, it makes it much easier.

hay Roy can you please give me a call at 435-849-6836 ....I put the parts in but it would only up shift and not down shift .....I dun fudged it up lol

I finely got the shifter issue cleared up ....(had 1 extra part ...lol) and it clicks into all 5 gears and reverse (lights on dash even work ) but when you give it gas it doesn't move forward or in reverse .....time to pull the clutch side cover and look at the clutches (it does lurch a little when going from N to 1st gear sometimes )
