Exclamation honda 400 4x4 timing/carb??

Have (had) running '99 400 4x4. Did top end, new sleeve, Namura piston/rings/gaskets. adjusted valves. cleaned carb. Had it running for 5-10 minutes then it died. changed gas (new) cleaned tank.filter, carb (again) new plug. gas to carb. with air filter off. when it cranks and my hand is over intake port I feel engine suck and then a breath blowby? Is this normal or has the timing somehow jumped. I checked TDC with piston and flywheel "T" mark prior to dropping head/gasket and tightening. Any ideas? Thanks. Oh yeah, I've got spark, good compression and no leaks at head/cylinder. Thanks.
