Default New member with a question

Hello all, just joined the forum and I have a question. I currently have a 2007 Rancher with fuel injection, I'm looking to pass it down to another member of the family. So I have my eye on a 2003 Rincon with very low miles and hours and in great shape or a 2008 Rubicon. I'm familiar with the Ranchers but not familiar at all with the Rubicons or Rincons except when seeing them on the trails. Can anybody break down the main differences in the two? I know the IRS and the SRA, but anything else besides engine size? The Rancher I currently has fits my needs just fine but like I said I need to pass it down to my nephew. Hoping to get a little seat time on the Rubicon and the Rincon this weekend to make up my mind. Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum, that is the best way to see which one you like the best (seat time). The main difference between the 2 is the transmissions, besides the suspension. The Rubicon has a hydrostatic type of transmission with a high/low range (5 preset positions when in ES mode, like a 5 speed transmission). The Rincon has an automotive style transmission and 3 gears. The Rincon is higher geared with just the 3 speed.

Went and test drove the Rincon and it was in pretty good shape mechanically, it had a few dings cosmetically. Main problem I noticed is that the CV joints probably needed to be replaced on the front end. The front tires were pretty loose and there was a creaking sound coming from the front end.
I'm trying to go check on the other one today but the guy has it at the dealer getting a recall fixed on the throttle sensor.

The bold could be the bearings being bad or other things. If it is in fact the CV joints make sure you get it way below book as they do add up fast in price. You could be looking at $90 -$700 depending on what is bad for parts alone. Me not knowing the machine can only guess and will give you the worst case, which you want when buying. I do it when trading them in and you have to to cover your arse.
