Default rear brakes

I can go in reverse but when i go foreward, my brakes are seized up. I took the rear brake assembly apart and the drum is still attached to the plate. Howdo i get the drum away from the plate so i can see if that is the problem. HELP???????

welcome to the forum. you may have to use a pry bar or even a dead-blow hammer to get it loose. make sure to spray some pb penetrating oil into as well. that will help

Welcome to the forum... I just had mine apart as well, are you saying you can't get the outer panel removed to see the actual pads and out of the drum?

With both cables off you should be able to move the rear brake arm, pull it towards the back of the ATV, the pads should release (or go back to their rest state) and like ss said, spray PB Blaster or WD-40 around the seam and you should be able to use a pry bar or screw driver to work the plate assembly out of the drum. There is 2 slots on the differential/plate mating surface that you can use to spread the parts. Be careful not to apply to much pressure and mess up the aluminum. Mine were locked up bad, and the axle seal/bearing and the felt dust seal and inner seal on the brake cam were all shot, water and mud had gotten in there and locked it up.

Good Luck

That would be my guess as well, you can seperate the shoes by hand, remove the arm, and tap the cam out... there is 2 seals that I'm guessing are gone.

Okay i just went and looked and the cam is still attached but the brake arm is not. the actual brake housing is attached to the outer panel and it wont come apart, do i need to take the cam off and then the housing and everything will come off??
