Default Started working..

Started working on the rear and getting the axel out to change the bareings and seals. And what a job it turned into! My shop is allowing me to work on it there and thank god because have any of you guys ever had to take the lock nut and other nut off the axel and it was seized? It gave my teacher who is a very large guy a hard time with the torch to get off... i can only imagine if it was me.. the quad would have been junked. but now that we got the axel out after lots off looking into it hopefully the bareings come out smooth, even though its not looking that way , pics tomarrow for who ever wants to see :P

i had to take the castle nut off the rear end of a 01 350 rancher about 2 months ago, and it took a 36" breaker bar, with a 48" pipe slid over it, and me bouncing on the end, and it still would not break, i literally had to jump very hard on the pipe to break the nut, the 36" breaker bar was bending like a banana, i just knew it was going to snap and kill someone lol.

I had a 3/4 impact gun and a socket built for those axle nuts (the old trx 300 has them on both sides) and it makes them a breeze. I guess I still have the socket...lol

Take a good look at the splines in the center of the axle.I stripped mine back in the fall.Apparently water getting in through the seals because of worn bearings washes away what little bit of lube that was on those splines. My fault as I thought the splines were lubed by the rearend oil.

Ya I completey disassembled the rear end of a recon to replace the bearings. I don't think it would have been that bad except i took a year break in between finishing it and couldn't remember how all the pieces went back together. It rides smooth now except it squeals like a worn brake pad occasionally...lol
