Default Overheated?

Hey! Another question for y'all. I just now remembered a small little scenario that happened to my Recon while my buddy was riding the snot out of it, he likes to do that, at Uwharrie. Well, we had been riding for about an hour or so when we found some new trails that weren't marked off or anything. I'm guessing they just made them. But anyhow we got down there and were tearing it up and he stopped and wanted to race me while i was on my xr80 (trail bike). So we both take off and I can tell he's mashing the throttle and over revving a little and the atv just stalls. He tries cranking it up again and it starts, but once he gets on the gas at all it stalled. So we waited a little for it to cool down and it started right back up and ran fine and we didn't have any more problems at all that day and I've had no problems as well. Is this just a limit switch for the heat of the motor or what? Could this of damaged the fourwheeler? I know it wasn't good for it, I know that much. Thanks goodness he's getting his own fourwheeler pretty soon...

I can't help with yoru problem, but the best you can do is to be certain all cooling components are clean anf operating freely.
The second (maybe the first priority) is to have the best lubricant possible in the machine....Rotella T3 15-40 at a minimum, Rotella T6 synthetic 10-40 or Mobile 1 5-40 is much better still. It's the real deal, as you machine will run smoother and cooler and cleaner in about any environment.

As to your bigger problem... he's YOUR buddy!

I'd think maturity would dictate older riders would take care of borrowed other people's gear, but I found the hard way that perhaps that doesn't apply to riding 4 wheelers... they want to run the poop out of everything...keep 'em off your machine ... they can go tear up their own...

I let no one on my bike period for this exact reason. He may be your buddy but that straight disrespect tryn to tear your bike up. I'm pretty short tempered when it comes to stuff like this and I probably would have got into a fight with this person. Best bet keep idiots off your stuff that your worked hard to pay for.

Could have been vapor locked, crack the gas cap to let air into it next time it happens.

I'm thinking vapor lock also. It just built up so much heat it couldn't get rid of it fast enough and possibly got the carb hot.
He may be your buddy, but he sure doesn't know how to respect other peoples property.
