Default Recon Solenoid

I have a 1997 recon and i am tired of buying starter solenoids for 30 dollars a piece. I was wondering if i could use like a generic solenoid for a lawn mower or something. i see them around town for 12 dollars and its either a 3 or 4 post. so my question is will it work? i mean they are all 12 volt solenoids so i don't see why not, but i just figured i would get others opinions...

Good question, the last one i bough i got off ebay to save money, it lasted 4 months and i barely rode it and some how the inside was all rusted out, but of course the warrenty only was for 2 months, Im not sure how water rusted the inside of it. and the one before that was rusted, i have used Di-electric grease to cover it as much as i can but water somehow penetrates it, I need to find either one that seals better or just purchase a cheaper one from now on.

Yea i will probably try that next. I just hate the prices for such a simple object. Money is tight for everyone lately and they still charge to much...
