Default Recon problem for the expers..

I am a long time member on HL. Just signed up here..

I have a recon I picked up awhile back.

It rolls like its in N but display (Its ES) shows that 1st gear is flashing 3 times (angle sensor) AND It shows a solid light for 4th gear (not flashing).

And on top of that it doesnt run. ATV looks pretty clean (PUll ropes not full of mud or anything..motor is stained realy bad) I cleaned carb and put fresh gas in it and its not running still, gets spark but doesnt seem normal? Only sparks every so often...Seems like it doesnt spark enough..

Heres my Link to my HL post, some pics there

And I took my shifter motor off the front, while I was there i noticed my angle sensor was broken, right in 2 pieces! Check out the pictures on HL, HOpefully someone on here can help me out!

Honda Recon, shifting ?

thanks!

Welcome to HF. The angle sensor defiantly needs to be replaced. Does it shift manually into gear using the tool? Hows the battery and fuses?

Good batt. and good fuses

IT DOESNT SHIFT AT ALL WITH BACKUP SHIFTER! (dont take that like screaming tone) lol

The backup shifter is locked up..maybe shift fork/drum idk....angle sensor is broken in half, it needs to be replaced

But i wanna know why its locked up, why it shows 1st and 4th and doesnt run

I'm going to guess the shifting problem will be found under the front engine cover. It could be anything from the reduction gears for the ES control motor to the bolt on the shift drum. It's also possible that it's at the rear of the motor but I would start with the front side since that has almost all the shifting components.

An idea of the parts in there. #13, 12, 18 or 38 would be my guess for a damaged part.

Once you get it shifting the other problems might work themselves out.

Right now Ive got the shift motor from the front of the motor off. (It still wont shift with the backup shifter) I need to pull the front cover (clutch cover?) And look for the broken pieces you mentioned..

Thank you!!!!! I really aprreciate it!

ps, the link is the pic you want me to be looking at?

They updated obviously and it won't link the page, look under gear shift drum for the picture. Yes, I think the problem will be found under the clutch cover unless a tooth broke off of the reduction gear (shift control motor) and is jambed, that is not likely but possible.
