Default Smoking? Would valves not being adjusted cause this?

I have a 2007 honda recon and it has started to smoke,(exhaust is oil free there is none blowing out of it so i would say there is no blow by im assuming rings are ok) its hard to see if it is white or blue, i have never had the valves adjusted and i was wondering if this would cause the smoke? Im going to check the spark plug tomorrow to see if it is coated with oil, i have drilled a few 1/4 inch holes by the stock outlet on the exhaust would this cause it? I would like to get a few suggestions on what might be causing this problem, it has never been sunk or anything like that and i have always changed the oil like i should but i have never adjusted the valves well anyway i thank anyone for their help.

Since it's not water cooled you won't get any white smoke from the water. If the smoking started after you drilled the holes in the exhaust pipe, you might have disturbed the carbon in the muffler and that's what you're seeing burning off.
That's a good thought about checking your spark plug. If it's wet with oil, you have a problem elsewhere.

The smoke started about a week after I drilled the holes, after I check the spark plug I will post the results. But the smoke is kind of white/gray in color,I doubt it is rings because it starts really easy always has,I'm open to any thoughts.

ok checked the plug its black but theres no oil to be found on it, which i know im running a little rich because i put a jet kit in it back in the winter, thats why i drilled the exhaust. But it still smokes, there is oil residue on the head toward the carb side. I guess i could adjust the carb a little better and adjust the valves but the smoke still has me clueless. Ive re ringed some motors and seen those plugs but mine im thinking its because its a little rich. So what do you guy's think?

It could be that the valve seals are leaking, but most of the time they smoke just at start up. Normally if the color of smoke is bluish, it's oil, whitish smoke is water/glycol and gray/black smoke is unburned gasoline. Do you have a air cleaner that uses oil in the filter element ? Maybe too much oil in it or a line from the crankcase to the carb is drawing oil vapors.

Thank you for your help, today i was riding and i let it idle and kinda got on it a little and it smoked heavily, so i revved it a little and let it idle back down and revved it again and i didn't see any smoke at that time, it really smokes when you let it idle and then go.The smoke is the dreaded blue, quick question it seems as if the recon is running a little to warm for me, after riding a while you can start to smell gas vapors coming from my vent hose on the tank i don't have much knowledge of these style carbs which i know it's running a little rich mostly for starting.I think i read somewhere also valves out of spec would cause high heat, but i thank you for your help.

Smelling gasoline fumes from the tank vent is dangerous. It's probably occuring from the motor getting too hot and the heat is getting the fuel tank hot. One possiblity of a hot motor is the motor running too lean from a improperly adjusted carb. Another reason is the timing.
As far as the smoke, it might be being drawn past the valve guides. Maybe the oil isn't able to return to the crankcase and too much is staying in the valve cover and being drawn past the guides.

I thank you for your help, I doubt I'm running lean because of the plug being black. I have changed the plug before and it was black and now it smokes and it is still black but it could have been smokeing before and I hadn't noticed.I. have never had to choke it to start it it has always started right up even in cold weather even after the jet kit. The recon ran great for about a week after I bought it new and then one of my carb nuts fell off and it would die when it got warm,I replaced the nut and after that 1st week it hasn't really ever ran like it did new.
