My sons recon sat up for a few months. We tried to run it and it would backfire out the exhaust and barely run anything past 1/4 throttle. If i pulled the choke to full choke it'd run without problems. I pulled the carb apart and cleaned it out and it helped some but i'm still having problems with it. Any suggestions?

When you pulled the carb apart did you find any water ? I'd drain the gas that's in the tank and replace it with fresh. Also, if there is a fuel filter, replace it. It's amazing how fast gasoline, especially gasoline with ethanol, degrades. I even put a clamp on the gas tank vent tube when I store it for the winter so it doesn't draw moisture.

The jets are small and plug up easily. Try some seafoam.

Oil change, spark plug, airfilter and oil filter....id change them all and see if it makes a diff...plus it should be done anyway. Ebay sells sets that include all of the above.

oil was changed due to water in it. Actually changed it a few times. plug wasen't bad so i cleaned it and reinstalled it. i didn't change the air filter but i'll try that. Also gas was poured out and fresh gas was put in it. Also i didn't clean the screen. its in the petcock isn't it? I don't believe this bike has an oil filter on it. there was no water in the carb... but its had water in it before. i'll also try some seafoam. thanks for all the suggestions. keep em coming.
