I recently bought a 2000 Recon for trail work and overall it is in great shape. It was bought for the owner's 16 year old daughter to ride around their property. The owner had a new top end put in it about 3 years ago and it hasn't been used very much since then. While I had it on a trailer today, I stepped off to the side and happened to see one of the 4 bolts that hold the head and cylinder on vibrating around. I pulled it out easily and my guess is that either it was over-torqued and finally broke (or hopefully not... the mechanic broke it and did not tell the original owner).
Regardless, there is no leak right now and the motor runs strong and smooth without any issues. Regardless, I plan to break it down and replace the bolt, unless someone says I don't need to worry about it. I have never had this happen, but I can see a large potential problem if another one gets loose or fails. I don't think I need a top end, but I guess I can replace the rings while it's off. It probably does not have 75 miles on this top end and the owner was great with regular oil changes and air filter cleaning, etc.
