No, the angle sensor on an ES model tells the shift motor how far to shift so it doesn't damage anything mechanically.

thanks is there a way to test the motor or the sensor.if i lift the rear end it shifts fine. the sensor is amonth old it worked fine for awhile now i get 8 blinks thanks for the help
