Default Torque converter problems

Hello everyone i'm new to the forums and maybe somebody can help me out. I have a 2006 680 that i recently purchased with a blown engine. I've gone threw everything and i am replacing the crank and bearings in the bottom end but upon reassembly i found the one way bearing in the torque converter to be weak. I can turn it the wrong way but not easily. So i was wondering is it an absolute must i replace it? They only sell the entire assembly and that costs one pretty penny! I had heard that the oneway bearing is only used for engine breaking? is this true? So in theory could i not replace it and just have to fully rely on brakes?

Thanks in advanced!

welcome to the forum
you need to replace the one way bearing if its bad ....it dont realy make sense to me to not change it while the motors sitting on the bench . you do what you want but i love the engin braking on my foreman and wouldnt ride without it .

the rincon doesn't have much for engine braking anyway. hopefully toodeep will chime in. he knows quite a bit about rincons

Just put it together and don't worry about it. I have a few out there running around the same way and you would never know it. The Rincon is geared so high that what engine braking you do get isn't much and your on the brakes anyways.

They have come down in price (about half) from what they use to be but ya, they are still a spendy part ($550-$600). I haven't "had" to replace one yet and there are machines out there with over 30,000 miles on them so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
