Default 2005 rincon problem

I'm new here guys and I have a couple questions for you.

I have a 2005 rincon bought new in 2006. Currently I have 2025 miles on it and in the last month started hearing the intermitant ticky noise right under the exhaust pipe where it mounts on the motor. I did a little research and found that sometimes the left tensioner goes bad. Well, I pulled mine off and wiped it down. Should the plunger push in and then push back out under spring pressure? Mine does not budge at all. I notice there is a screw in the center hole. Is that an adjustment screw and if so which way do you turn it to adjust the distance the plunger should comes out? Do you think the guide is bad?

If the tensioner should move in and out, is it possible to take this down and replace the spring?

Thanks!!!!

OK, I took the part and pushed really hard on a table top and the plunger will go in but it does not do this smoothly. Also, it does come back out by itself but this action is definately not fluent. Thoughts?

Welcome. It should go out by itself but not in. If you was able to push it in, it is bad.

well, if i rest the plunger on the table and push it won't budge. but if i sorta tap/smash it with my upper body weight on it then it pushes in and comes back out. not fluently though. can it be taken apart and maybe the spring be replaced?

Thanks for the input on the parts. While waiting for responses, I found that hondapartsnation dot com has the left tensioner for $65 and the tensioner for $35.

So the lifter tensioner should not be able to be pushed in? What about taking it apart and replacing the spring? What is the screw for in the center hole between the mount screws? Do I have to replace the tensioner along with the external lifter tensioner?

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the tensioner job. Here's to hoping it doesn't need to be replaced but at least you've got parts, manual, and the forum.

Can I take the tensioner lifter apart and check the spring for binding or being broke? If so, can I get a replacement spring? The parts breakdown on the sites don't show the internals.
Thanks
