Default starter engages but kicks out

ok, heres what i got. its an 03 rincon and it won't start with the starter button. ive read a few threads on here trying to eliminate the causes. ive charged the battery making sure it has over 12 volts with the multi meter. at 12 volts or little over it wont even engage the starter. with the battery charger still hooked up and on 20 amp boost the battery is reading over 13-14 volts, the starter will engage for a split second then it kicks out. if you try it several times it sometimes stays engaged and will turn the motor over and it starts. ive jumped across the seloniod and its the same thing. i checked the voltage at the starter and its not reading much of anything, nowhere near 12 volts. im thinking of starting with replacing the selonoid, its like 25.00 off of ebay..<_<

When it kicks out, does the starter motor keep turning, but the engine doesn't turn over? If so, your one-way starter clutch is bad.

I would get the battery load tested. It might be holding a surface charge but under a load it doesn't have enough. Jumping the solenoid bypasses it so even if it was bad that should rule it out. Have you checked the voltage at the battery while jumping the solenoid? My guess it will be the same as the starter test.

I tested the voltage at the battery while I hit the start button and it would drop to about 4 volts so I tested my foreman and the voltage at the battery stayed around 12 volts. So I swapped the batteries and the rincon fired right up. going to get a new battery tomorrow. Thanks for the help.
