At one time the Honda Rancher was #1 in total sales and I believe today Yamaha is rated #1 in overall dependability.

I seriously doubt that I would buy a Polaris, especially a "value line" Polaris but that's me.

If I were to step out of the box I'd be riding a new Suzuki 750 KQ with EPS; a white one.

I personally don't own a Polaris, but I do ride with and know alot of guys that have them.Just as dependable as anything else IMHO.
I do have a Can-Am as well as the Foreman and the Foreman will go anywhere the Can-Am will, but the last mud run we did I had to tow the Honda out with a stripped rear axle.Just saying!!!!!!!!!!

Bash Away!
so, you're saying the reason we see so many raggedy po-po's is because there's so many of them??? wtf??? it's because they're all raggedy!!!

The poor old larry is a mechanics bike.
If your gonna own one you had better know how to decipher noise and repair them as well.
The only poor old larry Ive ever owned was a 1995 explorer 400 4x4 2-stroke chain drive that I picked up cheap off of craigslist.
It was screw driver start and 4x4 wasnt working and had no brakes and came with a cycle country plow for 800 bux with title.
I bought it with the intentions of fixxing it up and flipping it but by the time I was done I had 2300 in it and sold it for 2100 with snow on ground.
The most expensive part(4x4 not working) could have been easliy avoided had the former owner adjusted the drive chains once in awhile as the front chain got so loose it slipped off and snapped off the shaft coming out of the transmission and all said and done was 500 smackers!
I will say when I had it all done it was a blast plowing down brush and stuff just like Honda 4x4s but trying to load it on the new owners truck with slippery ramps was pretty scary with belt drive and the high revs and all.

Having grown up using the hand clutched master of torque, an old 2 cylinder Poppin'Johnnie, I have high respect for torque. I think I'll stick with the Foreman, the trouble free workhorse that simplly doesn't complain or worry about being sexy.

The common denominator is reliability, and the massive low end torque from about 6 rpm up .. Don't know for sure but seems like the old Deere's redline should have been something like 1200 rpm, and on the low side you counted every one of four strokes

Thump, wheeze-whooosh, thump,wheeze-whoosh, thump,wheeze-whoosh, right out of a mud pit or creek bottom carrying or dragging truely awsum loads.

Seems to be an older thread but I'll play.

Stock for stock Honda's are the most reliable. But when you start modifying them with larger tires, lift kits, power adders etc. they are no more reliable than anything else out there. People still carry that "illusion" or reliability through after they mod them up, and if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside then fine.
I'm not defending Polaris my any means, I wouldn't touch one. But some of you guys have to realize that Honda isn't the only brand out there.
When it comes to fit & finish I can't take that away from Honda. Everything looks and feels like a quality component, everything is well placed and neat. But, Yamaha is very close, and the new Can-am 800/1000 is probably equal from what I've seen.

As for the guy that said he put 2000 miles on his 450 Foreman with no breakdowns, all I can say is you must drive like an old fart. 2000 miles in 11-12 years? WOW. My 2010 Can-am has that on it or more in 2 years, running 29.5's, and lifted. With no breakdowns either.

One more thing, who said that the 850, Can-am, and Brute 750 V-Twins were all the same? You should have kept quiet on that one man. The Polaris 850 isn't even a V-twin LOL. The Kawi 750 is known to be unreliable, at least around here. Everyone buys the 650 since there is hardly any difference in power.

You guys have to step out into reality instead of living in your Honda bubble. I like Honda as much as the next guy, still have the 350 Rancher, but I'm NOT in denial like some of you are.
