Default Can't Win with the heat prob

Ok, so my Rincon has been being a real pain lately. After mudding a few weeks back I saw my temp light come on for the first time. Did a bunch of reading on here about the oil cooler blocking the rad and mudd packing in there etc etc. Ok great problem solved. Install spacers between oil cooler and rad 2 days ago. Cleaned in all out really well. Then yesterday afternoon about 3 hrs into riding thru mud, **** light comes on again. Granted we were in a fair bit of mudd. The only thing that makes me feel alittle better about the situation is my buddies 05 Rincon 650 aslo had its light on almost at the same times. Now I know there a rad relocate kit, but I dont wanna molest the crap out of my bike and want the stock look for resale value, so dont want to do that. Anyone used this water wetter ? Any luck ? Anyone else got any ideas for me to try ?

gsxrjarrett.

If you play in deep mud you have to pay the price. Not only will you have to clean the radiator and oil cooler, you will be replacing bearings, seals, changing fluids more often, replacing brakes, and hopefully you don't get it in the engine. The overheating issue is immediate and the others are chronic. Continuing to ride with the temperature light on, will quickly take the temper out of your rings with a loss of compression and increased oil consumption. Not trying to put a damper on your mud riding, but its a very expensive hobby.

Well I've been mudding for years with over 5 Honda's of my own. I have many friends that I ride with that are also liquid cooled having no issues. Were not riding in really deep mud, but I think this is more so a bad design when the rad is located. I wash my bike after every ride and do clean the oil cooler and rad each time as well. If or when the oil light does come on we pull over and take a rest for awhile. Just kidda wanting to hear how others deal with this issue ?

I just purchased my Rincon four days ago, and being a mudder myself, I asked one of the techs I know about the liquid cooling system because I am used to my 06 Rancher and it is, of course, air cooled. He told me that he has owned two Rincons and put Water Wetter in both of them and it helped the situation SOME. He also suggested that I install a Highlifter cooling gauge. I priced the gauge on a couple of websites and they run about $85. Not a bad price to keep a $10K ride on the trails. I have noticed that my Rincon runs considerably warmer than my Rancher, but it is also a big bore so I just chocked it up to that. I will keep posts on how it acts as I spend more time on it.

Welcome Bama, if you space the oil cooler out from the radiator it will help a ton also (on the cleaning side).

As far as the manual switch for the cooling fan there is a few write ups on that in the forum and I plan on doing one on mine very soon so I will get one with pics.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I am back at work (offshore) and haven't had alot of a** time to get up to speed on my email and surfing. I will try that with the oil cooler. I noticed on mine that it doesn't take it long before gunk starts building up in there. When you get a chance, post the pics. I would sure love to see them. I have been tempted to go ahead and order one so it will be waiting when I get home. Some good pics of the install would probably push me right into it! Thanks and I appreciate it a lot!

I was surprised when I moved my oil cooler. The metal line at the top on the cooler wraps over the rad in a U shape. This line limits you on how far forward you can move the oil cooler. I think it will definitly help, but I only got maybe an inch or so clearance. You will be amazed at the gunk in there that you couldn't see before. I have only ridden the bike once since then. It was a really hot day and we got pretty muddy, saw the temp light late in the day. Gonna get some water wetter soon.

Air in the system? Is the radiator topped of, not just the over flow. Run it from cold with the cap off and watch the fluid level and keep it full. It should help to get the air out. Good luck.
