I have a 2004 Honda rubicon and never did the oil change my self can anyone give me some instruction on how to do it. I know there is two drain plugs under the skid plate but don't know where the oil filter is or how much or what oil to put in it. Any help is appreciated
The filter is under the skid plate, look for a cap with one bolt going thru the middle and dont loose the washer that sits between the spring and the filter itself (you'll understand when u take it apart). The rubicon takes around 5 quarts of oil (wet clutch approved!!)
2006 Rubicon Canadian Trail Edition.
1 1/2 inch Quadrax lift
Motovan B series back seat
1000's of custom scratches
100's of dings n dents
50+ plastic stitches
and a few oil changes.
To remove the filter cover take the bolt about half way out and wiggle it back and forth. There is also a spring in there that goes on before the washer and filter (the washer keeps the spring from cutting into the rubber of the filter, the spring holds the filter tight against the motor). You will add 4 qts of oil and then you will have to run it a while and then add the rest (possibly up to 6 qts in the older Rubicons).
