Hey all,
I have an 07 Rubicon that I am the original owner of... Bought new in 08 Anyways since day 1 it has been nearly impossible to start in cold weather if the bike sits for more than a couple of days. Even in the summer if it sits for a week it is noticably harder to start. I know there is a primer bulb on the carb and yes I do use it. I have had this bike at the dealer multiple times and have been told over and over by my dealer to "live with it" as all Rubicons are this way..... COMPLETE BS!! 4 other friends of mine have 07's and 08's and none of them are like this. They all start right up. I have looked high and low on the "net" and have found quite a few threads about this but no real answers. This is my 5th Honda ATV and none of them have been this way, **** most of them I could start in -30 weather with hardly even needing to use the choke. So I guess my question is has anyone ever found a solution to this or do they just live with it? Obviously there is a problem as if 4 of my close friends rubicons do not do this there must be something wrong or "off" with mine. A setting perhaps ? (valves, carb, timing) or maybe just a build up of manufacturing tolerances ? I am diving into mine today, start with setting valves and cleaning carb then setting it properly. |

Well I that was not too hard, checked the valves and they were spot on. Started taking the carb off and noticed how hard the choke plunger was to get out.
So just for giggles I lubed it up a little, stuck it back in and tried to start it. Fired right up with choke only 1/4 way out. ![]() I cannot count the times the "Powerhouse Honda" service manager told me to just live with it.. Drew |
