Default Rear disc brake question

Hey guys,

I am just starting to get into ATV riding, and have been browsing the forums here for a while. Seems like a fantastic group of guys on here! I recently bought an 06 foreman ES and an 03 Rubicon, and love them so far.

My question is this: the Rubicon has had a disc brake conversion on the front and the rear. I'm pretty sure it is a High Lifter kit. The front brakes are working, but I'm pretty sure the rear master cylinder is trash.

I know they don't sell the rear kit anymore, and apparently they are impossible to find, but is there any hope to getting my rear brakes working?

I have not yet tried to remove the master cylinder and see if it has part numbers or something on it to try to match it up. I'm hoping I can just use one from another bike and it will work.

thanks

welcome to the forum !
you got yourself in quite a spot
the only thing i can think of using is a master off of a sport quad and have a hose custom made to mate up to the caliper ........

The Rincon has a rear master cylinder also. As does the 420AT.

Did you call HL? They might be able to tell you what master cylinder will work. It was probably a OEM part off a Arctic Cat or something.

According to one company I do business with, the rear conversion kit was discontinued due to problems with the master cylinder. The ones that I've seen installed that don't work by the way are placed in a bad spot along the frame and can be easily damaged.

You might be able to contact High Lifter to see if they can sell the master cylinder alone or check Ebay.

I have checked ebay with no luck at all.
I will try to call High Lifter -- good idea, thanks.

Yeah man they may have some sitting on the shelf and be willing to get rid of them since they don't sell the kits any longer.

What I've seen on them is the cap gets damaged and the fluid comes out leaving no brakes.

Update in case anyone is interested. Sent an email to High Lifter and got a very quick response. Needed part # 260-5516 -- on backorder, but still it looks like I am going to have brakes.

Shadow, I responded to your PM. If Hi Lifter can't get the back ordered part try the rear master off of a Suzuki Vinson. I have both and they look identical. There are a few on ebay currently.
