Used plans from Snorkel 2007 Honda Rubicon - MudInMyBlood Forums
What better to do to a four wheeler I've had for less than 3 weeks and only had 3 hours on the odo when I got it, than to cut it up and drill holes in it? And then dunk it handlebar deep in muddy water?! I used pvc instead of ABS pipe and the bends that I put in weren't the same length as the ones described in the thread there. This throws off the measurements that he lists. I started by going to home depot, bought two sticks of 2' 2.5 and two sticks of 2' 1.5. I bought the same bends and hose clamps described in the post above and also some vinyl tubing for the vent lines.. If you buy the pvc bends they may not be the same length as the ones in the post so you will have to play with the lengths to get it right. ![]() The 1.5" part of the install went pretty smoothe, just read the directions. You will have to play with the angles the bends are turned and whatnot to get it the way you need it. ![]() What I didn't take pictures of was the hole I had to cut in the inner fender and the mudguard next to the block that I had to remove. You will have to saw at your baby to have room to snake the 2.5 through. ![]() Next was the aggravating part for me. The bends as I said seemed to be longer than the ones in the writeup. I had to cut the pipes shorter than described to get the right angles and to get around the fender brace. I also didn't use the 90* angle where the pipe goes through the upper fender. I got the angles just right where the 45* at the top went almost straight up through the fender. It does angle slightly forward. I took the extra 90* and a inch or so long piece of pipe and stuck it to the other 90 for a turndown, now it looks like a candy cane.. ![]() I took off the tank and ran the carb vent lines along the already there harness and up to the handlebars where the other vent lines come to. ![]() ![]() The diff and fan vent lines already have little barbs on them that sticks into the frame, I pulled them out and used them to splice into the vinyl tubing, I then ran all of the lines up though the rack hole and up the snorkel, then under it at the top for a little bit of splash protection. I took it ALL apart making sure to mark the pipe to retain the angles, then sealed the crap out of every connection. Then when it all dried I hit it with some plastic paint from rustoleum. Looks great. ![]() Took it out Saturday after the paint dried and drove it right into the pond. The only leak that I can figure is coming from around the little drain at the bottom of the airbox. It only gets a tsp or so in it and the airbox inside looks dry so it MUST be coming from the drain. Make sure to plug the carb drain at the bottom when you go deep if you're thinking about doing this. Mine's been to the handlebars and never died. The only thing that sucks is I havent got my tires or wheels yet, and I have this badass snorkel but cant go to the really deep spots on the well known trails because of lack of ground clearance. It's like having a 6 inch lift on your truck and then having factory tires on it. Oh, and NO I haven't had to rejet, but it does seem to have less torque. Rejetting may regain power, but it's not burning it up. Rode it all afternoon saturday with no problems.
