Snorkeled now what jet size ?? - Honda Foreman Forums : Rubicon, Rincon, Rancher and Recon Forum

Ok I have done a 2" snorkel on my rubicon 500. I drove it around the yard and it idled low so I asked the local shop what I could do and he said just turn idle screw up a turn or two .... and it worked for a bit.

Now I've been running it for 40 hours or so and now it wont idle at all and when I turn the idle screw up or down it wont affect idle at all. So what do I need to do, go up on jet size or down ?? The reason I'm saying down is sometimes its hard to start with snorkel and it floods some in the air box. I take the drain cover off and it pours out some pure gas.

I havent adjusted the jet screw yet either .... I think it was supposed to be set to 2 1/2 turns out but I know I have to do this to.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

have you checked your plug to see if its running rich or lean??

what else has been done to the rubi aftermarket exhaust , free flowing air filter . ?

If you cover the snorkle just a little with some tape does it act better? If so you need a bigger jet. I would say next size up.

No other mods have been done. I have checked the plug and it is burning rich..... plug is black. You cant see black smoke but you can smell it. Power seems to be fine, I ride me and my girlfriend through some good stuff.

Just a thought because ;I didn't know better myself , but if your rubi is carbureted when/if you haul your bike ,plug the snorkel because airflow across the end of it will vacuum gas right into air box , thus ruining spark plug. Won't idle right with bad plug ! Also dirty carb will cause same problem. If its fuel injected forget everything I just said :-) ..

with 2inch all the way to the airbox, it is getting MORE air than stock. so it should be running a bit lean. sounds like your carb is filthy if the idle won't adjust. and it's probably gonna need the next size up jet.

What does your filter look like? Clogged up? 2" snorkel should provide MORE air than stock. Does it run better with the air box lid off?

MuddCritter is 100% correct. Shut you gas off during transport or cover the snorkle. Mine did the same thing.
