i got a 03 honda rubicon with the hondamatic. the ? is just say i wanted to get rid of the hondamatic could i put a total diffrent drivetrain and engine on the chassie i got or would it be to much of a bother. any ideas please feel free.

ill bet with a little work and $5000 you could get a foreman 500 (2005-2011) motor, front and rear driveshafts and wireing harness to fit and work .....here is my question to you ...why ? is the rubi tranny (hondamatic) shot ?

well i havent broke it down to see if it was shot i was just going on here say from some of my riding buddies. they all say the year of mine was bad about going out. i have posted before on how to tell if your hondamatic is gone but havent had any replys.

they not bad about going out but 05 and up did get better bearings but don't junk it a new ondamatic is 1200 a lot cheaper than another quad

yea thats what the honda shop was saying they gave me a price of 22 hundred and they said they would rebuild the top end why they had it broke down.

you could do it yourself for 1200 plus toped parts but thats if its damaged. does it run/ move forward or backwards

most problems with the rubi trannys are(1) the bearings start to make a grinding sound when in gear (2) the oil pump chain (for the tranny) stretches and pops off the pump or (3) the oil pump goes bad (low preasure) .......there are a few other things that you should be able to find under the rubi forum .

no i had it under a strain and it popped and the shifter was stuck in drive and would not go back to neutral. but it free roles like its in neutral.so i took the sensor off and where the sensor was there was a gear and it had a tooth broke off so i turned the gear with a screwdriver and it happen to unlock something cause now it shifts to every gear but wont move.

figure out what that gear is and replace it and anything else and your good to go man

Make sure you have oil pressure or you will have bigger problems soon.
