Default plowing advice

I have been plowing with a 1990 Jeep Wrangler, but recently got the warn 54" plow front mount for my Rubi so I could get into the tighter spaces, around the wood shed, walkway, etc....

Questions since I have never plowed with an ATV

1. Any advise on speed, go faster to throw the snow, better to go slow to just push it, L gear or not, etc...

2. Any possible issues with stress on the frame

3. Real world expierence pushing say 10+" of snow, ie raise the plow half way and push a little at a time or no problem with 10-12" at one time?

4. Drink jack and coke or capt and coke while plowing? Which works best for you?

Thanks all

1. I have a Foreman and I plow in 2nd gear. Not sure how that equates to your L and H, but it works good for me.

2. I've been doing it for the past 5 years with no issues, doing two driveways in upsate NY and smashing into snowbanks over and over.

3. 10" is really tough, because it will just come over top of the plow. If you had really short runs you could probably do it with the method you mentioned, but it'll be a pain. I try to plow with the storm as they say. I try to never let it get over 6" because it ends up just taking so long to do if it gets too deep.

4. I've tried beer while plowing, but your hands are so busy and all that smashing around tends to just make it more trouble than it's worth. Maybe if I had a beer helmet!

My speed varies with the amount of snow and where I'm pushing. Long straight runs I get going pretty good to throw the snow out of the way. When I had the Rubby I used low range all the time plowing.

I never had any problems with any damage to the frame. The mounting bolts should give before any damage could be done if you do hit something hard enough. I hit a curb in the past hard enough to bend the push tube for the blade and had no damage to the mount or frame.

The deep stuff make a trail and take a little at a time. I never had any luck having the blade partially up, most of the time you get too much wheel slip on the wheeler and end up almost stuck. I mounted a rubber flap (baler belting) to the top of my blade to help deflect snow out of the way.

Schnapps, keep the harder stuff until after your done...LOL

That seams to work the best. I made some side shields for each side of the plow. It really helps when pushing snow.
