Default rubicon oil pump?

Hi, I'm working on my friends 2002 rubicon. Problem was, no code flashing, ol level good, starts and runs fine. Put it in esp or auto mode into gear, as soon as you give it some gas to move it skips. Almost like a bad universal on a truck. It had power to climb onto the trailer and to move around. Checked joints and put it on the lift and in gear. It would do in the air also and their was a noise coming off throttle after I reved it up in gear in the air. I took tyhe front cover off to check th clutch. Looks fine. Bearings so fr seem good. Only thing I see and don't like is the bottom oil pump gear and chain. The gear or sprocket seems loose like it will fall off and the chain is very loose. My next step is to remove the clutch and basket.
Just wodering if anyone has had this and if the pump is bad or chain is strechted will that afect the trans to the point of skipping like it does. It doesn't bind up put it skips like a tooth is gone somewhere?
Any suggestions? thank you

I would put it back together and do an oil pressure test. That will tell you if you have a transmission/oil pump problem or a sub transmission problem. Does it do it in all gears (D/L/R)?

Haven't noticed any shavings in there yet. How do I test the oil pressure?
