Bike is a TRX500FA2 2002 Rubicon/ with “Foreman hydrostatic” written on side. 200 hrs use. Just had oil change
Main Problem 1. On cold starting, selecting “D” (lever on lhs of tank) will result in all three driving modes appearing on the LED dash (D1 D2 ESP), whereas only one should appear. 2. It will not change gears (manually or otherwise) when stuck in this mode (D1,D2& ESP all displayed at same time) 3. It is not possible to start in gear (with front brake lever pushed) When engine warmed through, it will always revert back to normal operation ie only one driving mode is displayed, it will change gear automatically and is able to be started in gear. Notes Putting gear lever into “L” on cold never results in this problem. It will go into particular selected driving mode (selected from electric dash mounted twist switch) and is able to switch up and down gears manually or in ESP mode. It is possible to start in gear. When cold, if you select” L” and ”ESP” and put it into say gear 2, shifting the gear lever directly into “D” will leave the bike in gear 2 but obviously in the higher “D” ratio I have noticed with engine warm but not running, selecting “D” will result in all three driving modes sometime still being selected on LED display. However with the slightest movement of the bike, the transmission will click and then the single (correct) driving mode will be selected on the LED display. Is this a common problem, its funny that when warm the bike never misbehaves, it only happens in the first 5 – 10mins of operation There are no error codes that I can see on diplay, ie nothing flashing. I have recalibrated gearbox, by pushing up and down gear levers with ignition on etc, until you hear the shift motor working Anybody able to shed any light on this ???

clean connectors for start in gear, and everything is fine it doesnt select until you move, so you can change it without binding it up in the ecu.
other words your good to go man

Hi I took it to the dealer who :-
swapped the ecu over with a spare he had, still the same traced all wires an tested them in accordance with the workshop manual. All seems well. The problem still exists. It is definitely something to do with temperature as it disspears after 10minutes use Dealer pretty certain it is not inside the gearbox as the same parts and bits are used in here whatever the gear lever is in (D or L) He thinks it could be the main LED pod as he thinks this does some processing ??? Or alternatively the driving mode switch next to the led display. However this seems to work perfectly Im stuck (

update
I still have same problem whereby all three driving modes come on at same time on LCD display whilst in D ratio, not L. In L it drives and changes gear as normal. However I wired heated handgrips in today to behind ignition switch. Now the fault lay in both ratios, making the bike not start. I have only touched ignition switch wiring, moved the twist switch to select driving mode and taken cowling off from LCD console. I guess I have also tugged on all the wires that run down the steering column in the depths of the bike Any ideas where the fault lay ?

Have you checked the gear position switch? Of course you'll want to check it while the machine is giving the problem. It's possible it has just a touch of moisture in it and running it that little time gets it hot enough to make it work again.

Mr toodeep, as it happens you were spot on. It was the gear position switch on the gearbox on the outside. It gave correct readings as per service manual on all positions except "D".
Changed it and it works 100%..............cheers for that. I owe you one !!
