Rubicon won't down shift in D2

Dad has a 2002 Rubicon that won't down shift when your in D2 high side and put any load on it like going up even little hills. Its still runs fine and shifts fine in D1, low side of D2 and ESP. Honda dealer can't figure it out, thought someone on here may have seen this before.

Thanks a lot for your help, greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with my 2002 Rubicon. The rpms just won't pick back up in D2. D1 and ESP work fine. I don't have any codes showing. I just don't use D2.

Mines like that on occassions too.

I really believe that it has to be the ECM (engine control module).

I would consider looking for one from possibly a 2004. If I remember correctly Honda changed the shifting "strategy" by then to make it a little more responsive or "sporty".

When you shift into low range D2 is the default mode so it has to have something to do with the program in the ECM for D2 high.
