Default Diff. oil change how often???

I changed my diff. oil tonight and it had moisture in it. I been in some water but not ever been close to the seat. I checked the vent and it looks good. I Think it is condensation?? It is only 1 1/2 years old with 2200 miles so i just thought i'd change it glad i did. How often are all of you changing your gear oil?????

Being proactive never hurt anything... I looked back on my records and found I change the diff. fluid more than I thought. About every other oil change. Thanks for the question cause it reminded me to do that soon...lol

Sure. What I like to do is warm the bike up. Not sure thats neccessary, but its what I do. On your machine, looking at the front diff. from the front, on the lower left side is the drain bolt. I think its a 17mm to remove. Let that all drain out and simply add new fluid until it just starts to seep out. Replace drain plug. Make sure you dont cross thread it. For the rear its the same proceadure. The drain bolt for the rear diff. should be located, as your looking at it from the rear of the machine, at the lower right side of the pig.

How often do you change your Engine oil?? I change at 600 miles when the light comes on. I do notice when the oil starts to get close to change the fan starts to run more. I trail ride more then i mud so i put on the miles fast 100 plus mile days when i go are what i like to do (no wonder no one goes with me). I clean my air filter all the time from the **** Dust.

You can get moisture in the differential just going axle deep in the water, a warm differential will pull it through the seals when it's rapidly cooled. Nothing you can do about that and it won't pull much in usually. I change mine often since I ride a lot of water. I would change it at least twice a year or every other/third oil change (checking it in between), just depends on the mileage and how fast it adds up.

If your owners man. says to change the oil at 600 miles then thats good to do. I, like some folks change it twice a year. Usually every 200-250 miles. I ride 90% trails. Little mud over the axles. Little hard or fast riding. Its just right for me. Pricey, but I do it. Folks like Toodeep od Wydglide may change thiers more often cause of where and how they might ride.

I change my diff fluid with every oil change at 600 miles. Its just so easy and so cheap. I also use a magnet whenever I change the oil in anything. I like to see what comes out. Last year I picked up some bits of a friends main bearings in his car and was able to get that replaced before catastrophic failure. It was a turbo car running about 16 psi of boost so the outcome wouldn't have been pretty.
