Default Help w/purchase of 05 Rubicon

New to the forum but could use your advice. I am looking at a 05 Rubicon with only 325 miles. It is stock other than a utility box on the back. They are asking $4000.00. What do you guys think is this a good price or should I go try and go lower?? Thanks for the advice.

Welcome to the forum. That is a little over book value but the book value is just a guide. Depending on the condition of the machine - tires, appearance, mechanics - and what the machines are bringing in your area effect the prices. Here is NADA for the machine to give you an idea.

Thanks for the info. I appreciate the quick reply. It is in very good condition with only a few scratches. No damage and color is still bright. Just had it serviced and no problems were identified. I am thinking to offer $3600.00 and maybe end up right at the book value.

Make sure it starts and runs well. Make sure it doesn't smoke. Make sure it shifts well through all gears. It should run straight down the road (not pull to one side) The steering should be tight. Take the seat off and look in the air box to see if it looks like it has taken on water or has oil in it. (The air filter should be oil soaked but there shouldn't be any extra in the box) Look for leaks under it where it sits and while it warms up and after you test drive it let it run a little more. Check fluid levels and if it looks clean. Look at all the suspension, grab it and move it around see if anything looks loose. You can also check lights. Other than that I can't think of much else to check.

Just hitting 3000 miles on my 05. Third set of front wheel bearings and second set of brakes. Minimal issues for the rough life it has had. Can't make it use a drop of fluids. If those miles are actual, jump on it.

Just an FYI,

I sold my '05 in January of 2010 for $2,500.00
with 9.200 issue free miles

Definitely worth that, at least around here, I've seen similar Hondas that were older than that with higher mileage sell for $1,000-$1,500 more easily. Honda ATV's are quite popular around here, seems like everyone either has one or wants one, I can't leave mine outside without someone stopping to see if it's for sale. Plus you might as well say it's new with only 325 miles on it, I can't imagine much hurting a Honda with that few miles (other than maybe sinking it)..
