Really helps to have the IT manual to track down issues with the Rubicon. It also pays to invest in a good multimeter and when it calls for a special test connector fork out the bucks to buy the test connector, saves money in the long run.

In the last 13 months I have replaced the ECM, and speed sensor. In the process of tracking down the speed sensor issue I purchased a new meter for my '03 Rubi. I had the new meter on for less than five minutes, long enough to determine that I was getting the same issue as with the old meter. Put the old meter back on, went to ebay and bought a new speed sensor for $14.99 and the issue was resolved. Now have a $200 meter display in the original Honda box with zero miles on it sitting in the garage, unlikely to ever be used.

I've got an 02 Rubicon 500 ES and I just got done replacing the digital readout screen(speedometer, gear position etc) because it was broken. The screen works now and it will go into forward and reverse but the electonic shift doesn't work and the gear position just flashes on the screen.
I was wondering if it needed to be initialized or reprogrammed or if you think the angle sensor needs to be replaced. I've done some research on it and it all sounds like the angle sensor but was curious since i did replace the cluster??

When I retrieve the trouble code the indicator does not blink at all. Is it supposed to?

Help me please!
I have followed all of the procedures and the darn thing still blinks at the rate of .5 per second.
What now?
New ECM?

Welcome to the forum Pete. What year of Rubicon do you have? Any history of riding habits (trail/mud/water) that led up to the problem? What exactly is the machine doing when you try to ride it?

Thanks for the prompt response!
I have a 2002 trx500FA with a lot of heavy duty hours on it around my tree farm and sawmill
I also ride it at my Adirondack camp in northern NY and do some water/mud there along with retrieving deer when we kill one.
It is currently in fail safe mode and I can't reset it.
There is no rhyme or reason to the problem popping up.
It has blinked on me several times in the past and I was always able to reset, but not this time.
It blinks all the time and is reluctant in reverse backing up only when I feather the throttle.
