Default Transmission noise

Has anyone had the ratcheting noise on their rubicons, when decelerating down-hill? I have a 2004 rubicon and it whines/grinds only down-hill when the throttle is released. When the quad comes to the bottom of the hill and is coasting slowly the noise starts to sound like a chian that has come off track but the noise is gone after the throttle is pressed slightly.

I am having the same problem with my 2005. I would appreciate some input as to what it might be. My thoughts are "oil chain"? But I'm not sure.
BTW, I have 6,500 miles on mine.

sounds more like a sprag/one way bearing in the clutch... check that first... its much much much much cheaper.... does your engine breaking still seam to work??

other guy is right, sprag clutch is what the problem is. part is about $100.00, remove the oil cooler, front case cover, clutch, change sprag and make sure you put it back in the proper way, and go hit the next whole.

Are we all talking about the same problem here. My question is what is causing the "chain rattle". Is that coming from the sprag clutch? Thanks

I found the problem with mine. I had low oil pressure @ idle so I replaced the oil pump and the problem is solved. Honda redisigned the oil pressure relief valve in the pump after 2006.
The noise sounds like a chain rattle but it was actually the transmission pump pistons slapping the swashplate inside the transmission.

So how hard is the oil pump to replace.
