Default Goes right into safe mode when using ESP

My 01 Rubi goes right into safe mode when I try using ESP to shift. I've cleaned the control motor, greased the conectors, checked and sealed the angle sensor and tightened a loose gear shifter pivot. What else am I missing. I just got this machine and it runs great with this exception. This Rubi only has 1174 miles on it. I don't need the ESP I just want to make the bike work right. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your replies. I did look at the shop manual someone posted and I was able to erase the codes. The machine seems to be fine now. I work on engines in the Coast Guard, mostly Diesel.
