Default Hondamatic or tranmission

Hello ..

I like to know if anybody change a hondamatic or tranmisson ?

After you change it what was it doing before you change it ?

Have anybody try to take apart the hondamatic apart and see what it look like or try to fix it ?

Thank you
Curt

We've had a few Hondamatics apart but you can't buy any parts to fix them ..

The last one we had apart had broken rivet heads inside it ..

This transmission has been apart for a long time now .. This is the 1 I said had "what looked like rivet heads inside it" .. In the last 2 pics you can see the rods that hold the distribution pump (that's what Honda calls it) together out of several rod/pins only 1 still has the rivet (peaned head) still holding it together the rest of the heads came off and were floating around inside the pump..

Honda STILL claimed the problem with this pump (and just about everyone) was a bad oil pump .. Over the years I know for sure we've thrown out 10-12 GOOD hydrostatic transmissions , which were units that still drove fine but had low oil pressure ..And it takes 10-15 hours to change an oil pump so we change the hydrostatic unit with it as an assy. ... Honda paid all or part of the bill (on the early ones Honda paid all).. We still have some hydrostatic units that haven't been thrown out yet probably between 8-10 of them ..

As for milage ..I don't know now what was on that 1 .. We've changed 30-40 probably since 2001..

The local dealer here said he has only changed one. I have 5,000km on mine (2003) and no problems. Regular oil changes and no abuse.
Most Honda stuff is pretty good.

I am looking for a part-don't know what it is called, but I saw it in the pics of this member: Honda Mechanic-Honda Red wing Rider. One of the pics with the transmission, this small part is above and to the left of the transmission. Looks like some type of small rod or pin. I have looked everywhere and can't find-so don't really even know what part name to look for. The one I need is for a 2001 Honda Rubicon 5oo. There are 7 of them and I need at least one. Hoping you or someone might have some of these. Please reply.

Default peened heads?

I have a transmission apart from a 01 foreman and I have a similar situation except only one of mine looks like a rivet.
These are actually check valves and are supposed to be held in by a
cir-clip the ones in your picture have all lost their clips and the one mushroomed one happens to be stuck in its bore. Three of mine still have their clips but one of mine had ejected and the hammering/riding against the swashplate has given it that "riveted" look. I am going to see if i can machine my check valve and get it re-inserted. I may end up tack-welding them all so that it cant come out.
If you look carefully you can see they are threaded internally, which I believed is for installation or extraction.
It's too bad you cant just order these from Honda but I feel its the retaining clips that are failing.
Without check valves in place I am assuming the oil just bypasses and doesnt force the motor pistons against the drive swashplate.
I may go to a local hydraulic shop and see if I can get check vavles like these ones
