Left front CV assembly

New to the forum here and ATVs in general. Have been fixing up a 2001 TRX500FA, got around to tackling a clunking / grinding sound from the left front when turning. Jacking up the front end and turning the wheels I was able to identify the sound as coming from the left Lower CV joint, examining the joint one could see that the boot was pushed up the shaft and not sealing.
So I ordered a new assembly from Caltrix, placing it against the old assembly it appeared to be 1/2" shorter. The service manual instructs one to adjust the axle length when replacing the CV boots, so I assumed there was some play here. It inserted into the front differential with a little wiggling and the inboard joint was snug against the front differential, so I went ahead and put things back together. After torquing down the wheel nut I noticed that the inboard joint has now pulled back ~1/2" from the differential, so obviously I have a problem. I have contacted Caltrix, in the mean time, has anyone on the forum been here before me?

I recently replaced the front left cv joint on my 06 foreman. I bought one for like 60 dollars on amazon and it fit perfect. My guess would be that you bought the wrong cv joint or it was advertised wrong. Good luck!

I get used OEM CV axles from powersportsnation.com.

You know OEM is good, and they very accurately describe what they sell.

They've been running a sale on CV's lately. $25 shipped. Can't put two cheap boots on a CV for that.

Thanks for the response - I ordered the part number in the parts manual, and the part they sent me matches that number. Of course, that doesn't mean it wasn't mis-assembled or marked. Will pull it apart tomorrow and measure

Pulled things apart, the axle should measure 13.91" to 14.70" between the boots, the new pare measures 13.25", definitely a problem. Have contacted the supplier.

Nice site, thanks for the tip! See lots of Rubicon parts, but unfortunately no front axle / CV's. Will drop a note to them
