My new 2015 rubicon deluxe foot shift seems to be lacking a little hp due to the 26" executioners i put on it, i cant get the thing stuck but in the thick crap its all she can do to turn the tires in second gear. Im not interested in a pipe but am wondering if a k&n filter and a snorkel would make a difference. Im just looking for a relatively cheap mod i can do myself without tampering with the computer. Any advice would be a help. Also it only has 159kms on it so she is not even broke in yet. I expected more touque from it.
turbo and N02 ......nuff said
if you want some HP back get rid of them heavy azz tires and pick up something lighter ......or buy a kawi, can am or a poo poo
IMHO adding a filter without a pipe and a optimizer wont do much ....
You can't add any power without messing with the EFI. You can do a pipe, tuner, and air filter, good for about 10% gain or something like that, HMF as dyno charts.
Well second works ok but third theres no hope unless its snow.... im ok with second because third was never intended for rippin anyway on any honda i ever drove... I just love the traction it gets with these tires but didnt expect as much power loss as i did.... cant change it now.... tires are paid for and I don't have the money to be changing tires again.... i just didnt know if there was an easy way to gain power or not without voiding warrenty, costing too much and cutting down on the life expectancy of my machine
I'm running 30" Mudder inlaw's, but I have the DCT with low. I have friends that are running 29.5 outlaw 2's on 2014 foremans. It turns mine pretty good in low but it could be better.
hp and cheap never go together, NO such thing as cheap HP
and surely NOT for a honda 4x4 atv.
only option you have to turn larger heavier tires is IMO a gear reduction, even what few HP gains yuou could get off motor work and exhaust(minus say a turbo or a little blue bottle) will be slight at best in power to the ground
SO all thats left is to modify gearing to get the HP your motor makes, to be able to turn them bigger tires easier
and NO way about this, a gear reduction will void your warranty.
BUT it will get them tires to turn in higher gears, BUT you also will then loose some top end speed too, and just rev higher at all speeds more or less, ON todays computer controlled everything, I am GUESSING , you might even run into some issues the new gearing will be sending messages to computer, more so I gather in auto modes.
SO< this would need to be looked into before doing a GR I would think on a 2015 atv??
The OP's Rubi, and mine too for that matter are both footshift models, just like your old 400. The only thing that controls the shifting is your left foot.
And a GR won't void the warranty, unless the motor blows up and they take it apart and find it? They will never know its there.
HAHA< well, I think a GR will void the warranty, its just a don't tell, and hope your not asked deal LOL
And OK, I wasn't sure if even the new foot shifts had more computer crap these days than needed, as , just never know anymore, seems the more high tech they make em, the less mods you can do with issue's
Good to know,a dn another reason when I need to replace my old one, I am sticking with a foot shift!, too many yrs of riding bikes and atv's with a foot shift to change, as I honestly like shifting gears, I still find myself reaching for a clutch at times however LOL
almost 35 yrs of driving bikes with a real clutch, old habit that happens naturally at this point in time LOL
i agree with you mac ....when the ES works right it is a beautiful thing but all the new hondas with ESP are 1000% better then the old foreman 450 because the shift motor is now brushless (and you should have alot less problems now)
I own all 3 (foot, electric and auto shift) and they all have a place. My down and dirty machine is the foot shift though. It gets (and takes) the most abuse.
I was checking out the fmf pipes and fuel mapping system that comes with.... 4hp and 4 ft lbs.... 800 bucks.... not sure if.I'll do that or not.... what does the 500 efi have for stock hp anyway? Also is there any exhausts out there better than fmf?
For 4 more HP, that $800 isn't worth it in my eyes. Even tho your making 4 more HP and ft lbs, how much of that's making it to the ground?? I bet hardly any.
The exhausts I always see people with are FMF and HMF.
Unless your doing other mods to the engine, that little HP gain isn't going to be noticeable. Your just going to have a load exhaust that cost $$$$. That's just my opinion.
the gear reduction will be a better value for dollars spent if you are running larger than stock tires. the larger the tire, the better the results. if you have larger tires you should lose little on your top end depending on the tires and the GR % you choose.
I bet that 3 or 4 horsepower with a pipe is wishful thinking too. you would be lucky to gain half that. I havent checked lately on hmf's website but when the efi was first introduced on the 500 foreman it was a 1-point-something horsepower gain with a pipe, tuner and the lid left wide open on the airbox. that was straight off hmf's own dyno chart. a forum search here will show you that dyno chart.
Ya sorry it was hmf i was referring too... the performance series for the new rubicon was 4 hp and 4 ft lbs. Was the full exhaust and turner. I know a couple guys that said they noticed a small difference with this upgrade but thats a lot of money for very small increases. Im not in any way interested in GR.
I'd like to hear from someone first hand with the whole package pipe programmer and filter. I'd be interested in set up but without first hand feedback I'm leery. If mac is right and its a 10% gain I think it would be a good investment. I know a little more growl out of engine wouldn't hurt my feelings but for the $1k investment plus time I want some go not just sound.
I'm about to call and order hmf performance series and tuner. Would like to put a uni filter on when I get it. Have done some searching cant seem to find one for a 15 Rubicon. If anyone has one I'd sure like to know where they got it.
Thanks, I was able to use their site that for some reason I couldn't use earlier and used the part number and got filter and cleaning kit off amazon for $43
i heard a tractor pipe that cosst 40$ at the store will give u the same hp as an fmf. n the way im set up for a snorkel it gets more air n noticed lil bit better spinning n im on 27'' mudlitess.not sure how it set up on the new 15 but the intake on a 2010 is baaiscly right under the gas tank plastic infront of the seat, but add a shopvac hose silicone into the stock intake n run it to the top of the plastic n use the stock top intake cover n screw it to tank plastic lined up with the 2" hole u cut to run ur hose throu, i use a 2" holesaw.. ill get sum pics up if anyones interested.. this mod and a tractor pipe is the best cheapest way.
