I just finished replacing crankshaft, cylinder, and piston. Got everything put back together and got it started. Have some issues, first I think maybe I have something a little off on the sub transmission it doesn't seem to be going into neutral at all. the light shows it's in neutral but when I give it gas it creeps fwd then seems to bog down and the kills the engine. same thing when I put it in D, and when I put it in R it wants to creep fwd then kinda jerks back and again kills the engine. also the D1/D2 light is just flashing on the display even though I have it in D2 when I put it in D it just keeps flashing D1/D2. the other issue is when it is idling it is making a pretty good knocking sound. Any help on where to start is appreciated!
Thanks.
This is going to be a tough one. Does it roll easy when in neutral and resistance when in gear? Did all the covers go on by hand all the way or did any of them need forced a little (bolts tightened to keep it tight against the case)?
It rolled fine before I started it. I pushed it out of my garage to fill all the fluids and pushed it back it when I started it. After I started it now it does not roll freely there is resistance. All cases went back on by hand front case cover was a little tougher (the one that covers the clutch and transmission) I had to tap around it with my hand a bit but then it went on.
I just put the angle sensor back in the way I took it out, I didn't see anything special about it in the book. I guess maybe I missed a step with that. I'm not 100% what you mean by reinitializing the system?
The angle sensor should have been sat in place in about a 3 oclock position (pointing towards the rear of the motor) and then rotated clockwise to about the 6 oclock position where the bolt holes lined up. The initializing procedure calibrates all the components to work together. The procedure is in the manual or you can find it in the FAQ section at the top of this forum section. It's possible the shift reduction gear is locked if any of that is off and the shift control motor will need to be removed to unlock that gear with a screwdriver or anything to turn it loose.
Ok, I reset angle sensor and went through the set up process. Except for the pulling ahead 5 feet part I can get a couple inches and then it kills the motor. I seem to have lost neutral all together. It will still creep fwd and then motor die when in neutral just like when in D or L? Not sure what to do next? Tear back down and start over?
