Default Another Shift Problem!

Greetings Honda forman members!
I am a proud owner of a 2003 Honda Rancher 350 ES 4x4 and am having some serious issues shifting!
I have searched the forum for an answer and i just cant find one so i have decided to reate my own.

First of the display always displays 0 for the MPH.. No matter how fast im going. The gear indacater, time, miles all work and display corectly.
Now the shifting problem; ridding in the trails and playing in the mud she will shift grears properly. (1st-5th). Theres that quick fluctuation in RPM`s.. Braking and shifting down...then shifting back up.. all is fine.
But when it comes to crusing down the street (fast) its like what ever gear i stop and cruse at it will get stuck...its been stuck in 3rd, 4th and 5th...
If i cruse in 3rd for to long it sticks in 3rd...
If i quickly jump threw 3rd and into 4th it sticks in 4th...
if i go all the way to 5th and cruse it gets stuck in 5th...
it hardly ever gets stuck in 1st or 2nd sence you dont run those gears for too long when your speeding.
Then i have to come to a stop turn it off, turn it back on, and it will let me shift. So i rock it back to nutrel start her up then im back to square 1..
I HAVE REPLACED BOTH THE ANGEL CENSOR AND SPEEN CENSOR
still the same problem...The constant disply of 0 MPH and the shifting.

Any help or guidence you could give me would really be appreciated!
Thanks
Blain

welcome to the forum
1st thing i would do is adjust the clutch (if you need to rock it back and forth that much .....its time to adjust the clutch )
as for the speedo it man be the dash itself thats bad

rich450 :
(can you throw me a picture on what im adjusting)

I looked at some other forums about ajusting the clutch and i saw that several other people had that exact problem with their ES, and adjusting the clutch fixed it!
I will do that first thing tommorow!

The only thing that bothers me is, other people say that their SPEEDO showed (-- --) with the same shifting problem. Mine reads ( 0 )... so thats throwing me for a loop.

ok! I read the manual over really well!
based on my problems..do i want to tighten the adjustment screw or loosen it? (it would make sence to tighten it)
I went out side and tamperd with it a little...my question is should that lock nut ever stop spinning.. im holding the adjustment screw and tighting down the nut but its not getting any tighter.... OMG I HOPE IT ISENT STRIPPED!!!!

if the nut is turning and you cant hold screw from turning with the nut then ........you have to take the front cover off to free up the seized clutch adjustment screw

this is very common on the hondas because nobody ever adjusts them

ok....
I went riding just to have a little fun...and what little tampering i did with the adjustment screw i noticed that i can no longer shift how "I" want to... It will only shift when the RPM`s get low... then it will shift....lets say that im shifting into 3rd or 4th or 5th, it wont shift untill the RPMs get low, but by that time it bogs down because of the low RPMs..
Tommorow im going to take it apart thoroughly... do i want to tighten the adjustment screw or loosn it?
and is it difficult to take the front off?
sorry fore the noobish act!
i just need a little guidence!
thanks
Blain
Oh and the gears still get stuck....except when shifting rapidly.. just like before

loosen lock nut then turn adj screw counterclockwise untill you feel a little resisentence . then turn screw clockweise 1/4 turn . then tighten up the lock nut while keeping screw from moving .......
the front cover comes off easy if you stand it up in its back rack, then remove skid plates ,then take off oil lines for the cooler and pull the front cover off ........
