The foreman is wider but it can also push through alot more things, the low end is rather impressive.
I love the ranchers myself very quick and nimble but you have to weigh your options on what you may want to do with it in the future. If you plan on buying new I would say go with the foreman, if you're going used I would look for a rancher just because you will save a good bit of money over the foreman. Either way you go, you really cant go wrong. |

If you do plan on putting a big tire on,like a 27 or bigger go with the foreman. If your going with 26 or smaller and trying to keep the power go with a rancher.

well, i have an 'old' 09 rubicon and 10 rancher. they are both awesome, but the rancher is definitely nimble and agile. plus its light enough to pick up and move either end if really narrow. i have no experience on the new 12 foremans but sat on one and seems like a large rancher at first sight. either way i think you will be good, but a TEST DRIVE IS A MUST!!!!

I debated the same went with the Rancher SRA manual shift with Power steering can be bought for less than foreman. Mine is by far a toy not work tool been riding since the 80s. My rickety old but truly loves the power steering not over done to remove all trail feel like some others and wrists do not hurt at end of day.I test rode the Foreman and am sure it is a good machine did not feel i needed the extra torque to play.

What years did the Rancher go from 350 to 400 to 420? What year did the Rancher get 4x4/4x2 shifting? For example, let's compare an '04 Foreman 450 to an '05 Rancher. The '04 Foreman is the last year of it's generation cycle while the '05 Rancher appears to be "newer". What size is the '05 Rancher engine? How do these two compare, across the board? Suspension, drivetrain, Etc. ?? I'll be plowing snow, hauling firewood, etc. so obviously, the Foreman is the obvious choice but I wonder about this particular comparison. How much difference is there between a 420 Rancher and 450 Foreman, besides the Rancher being newer?? |
