Thumbs up Winch install tips? 00 Rancher 350

Hey Guys --

Tomorrow I'm installing a winch on my 2000 Rancher 350 ES. Can anyone give me tips unique to this model, such as where to mount the contacter/solenoid, what ignition wire to tap and where it is?

First winch install, so any advice is appreciated.

Winch is a Promark XT 3000lb.

Thanks.

Most people tap into the accesory plug wire because its fused and shuts off with the key. Wydeglide had installed that same winch so maybe he will chime in and give you some tips.

Nah, man, not worried.
The reviews are 90%+/- positive, and what's funny is that even the $400 Warn winches have bad reviews about burned out motors, etc.

I got this puppy brand new WITH the $50 mounting plate for $139 shipped! Can't beat it. And I don't plan on using it often, unless I'm stuck, so I don't think spending a ton of cash on a winch is worth it unless you're running a snow plow or something.

I agree, my point is that no matter how expensive or what brand, all mechanical devices are prone to failure. Even Warn winches can burn out when you need em most, the only difference is I could buy 3 of these for the price of 1 Warn

What's funny though, is that on the Promark's box there are pictures of ATVs w/ winches, and one of them has a "W" on it. They didn't notice that lol

I bought a XTL 3000lb promark with Synthetic line last year (First Mistake)......

I was able to use it 4 times, in extremely light condition's,. and had to rebuild the spool bushing every time I used it & I was really watching the spool IF it JUMPS.it's Messed up Peroid!

! Last time was a pull no longer than 5 feetjumped the spool again...Eat up the bearings! 2nd mistake, I should have ditched it before the 2nd rebuild)

so after much review & some creative thinking & looking at it and every other brand I could find I figured, well the line is too small & their is WAY too much Gap between the spool and gearbox/motor, that's your problem! go on and buy another set of bushings and maybe bigger line & it will be OK if you change it out to bigger line or go with Steel.....Sounds reasonable right? WRONG! .......3rd Mistake!

I have received 5 shipments from Promark for bushings and all have been either for a different model or broken......and still have NO New bushings to fix it with (although I do have 2 good ones from previous rebuilds) so it can be put together like new or nothing wrong with it....

BUT COME ON 5 TIMES THEY SCREW UP AN ORDER for simple bushings!!!!??? now think about it...can you trust ANY product that come from a company like that?...I sure as H3ll will not.

so after the 2nd week of waiting for bushings I said screw it I'm buying a WARN a NEW in the box XT25 (2500 LB pull) cost me $275.00 Total Plus I got a 3 year No Questions asked Warranty for $30 or it would have been cheaper.....AND it just happens that the XT25 & XT30 is the same winch...only difference is the gauge of wire you use....the Warn come with 8 ga & I already had 6 ga on my Quad! .....

so if you add it all up I got a New 3000 lb pull Warn for $245! & a 3 year warranty for $30 extra!

And all I done was take some Extra time to ask questions and surf the net a little longer!

NOTE: No I was not in any form being a smart azz, only stating facts....BUT I think if you Keep a really good eye on the Cable you will get fairly good use out of the promark (time will tell & I'm interested Please let me know how that Cable one works)

Best of Luck to ya I hope you have better luck than I did & Never have to buy replacement parts either!

Glide

PS: both ends ARE plastic and if you ever want to get it off the Mounting plate , you have to take the whole winch apart like this ....the Nuts just spin in the housing, No other way to get them off!
