rearend whining in 5th gear - Honda Foreman Forums : Rubicon, Rincon, Rancher and Recon Forum

OK guys,I know I haven't been on in a while,but I have a question I need help with.My 07 Rancher 420 manual shift,4x4 makes a whining noise in the rearend,but only in 5th gear,wtf???
I'ts got me stumped,thought I'd try to get some info from you guys before I tear into it,any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

could it be ur tires making noise at high speeds. btw, good to see you back on

Thanks,but it's not the tires,it does it while it's jacked up.you can shift thru the gears everything is fine,as soon as you go to 5th,boom it starts whining everytime.

can u locate it to the motor or rear end?

Definitely the rearend housing,99% sure dude.

Forgot to mention,I tightenend up the rear right axle nut and it helped some.

could u have gotten it to tight?

It was making the noise before I tightened the axle nut,that's the reason I tightened it,to see if it would help,the right rear wheel was a little loose,I tightened it a little,it quitened it down a little,but still does it everytime in high gear.

BTW,it has brand new bearings and both wheels are tight.

have you checked ur oil levels.. i know i'm not bein very helpful, but i'm tryin to rack it around in my head...
sometimes u'll hear gears whine. especially when u have no load on them.
