Default Rancher Teardown & Rebuild thread

well the teardown has begun on my rancher. i went and picked it up from my dads house today and started working on it. in hindsight if i would have known it was this muddy and needed a bath that bad i would have pressure washed it before i started tearing it down. but i knocked most of it loose and what was laying on the frame i sucked up with the shop vac

anyways here are a few pics i snapped in the process of taking it down

side plastics, tank plastics, tank, etc all removed

airbox removed, floor boards removed, and part of the mud flaps

head pipe, and muffler removed. i been fighting both of them plastic engine covers. both allen head bolts are stripped.

like i said still fighting them darn plastic side covers. im thinking about just ripping them off and dealing with that later

and on a side note anybody know how to fix this problem

thanks. i only paid 500 bucks for it, but the guy said the motor broke. he didnt know what was wrong with it and took it to his local honda shop and they quoted him a crazy price to rebuild it so he said no thanks and left it sitting. i have narrowed it down to either a bad cam chain tensioner, a stretched cam chain or either the teeth on the cam gear have been stripped off. but either way i have to take the motor out to get access to it

Too funny, Gauntlet.....
Yeah the weather is getting super nice and I'm really interested in finding out just how good condition the bike may actually be in. All the best getting the stripped nuts out and the project going.

lol ive been using the **** out of wd-40. but when i run out of that i believe im going to switch up to liquid wrench or PB blaster. ive never seen somebody keep their quads like that. i mean i know utes are hard to wash and keep clean but **** a lil soap and water every now and then wouldnt hurt anything. i had enough weeds and dirt in the frame to start growning potatoes.

but thats ok im enjoying the challenge so far. once the engine comes out ill prob tape up the electrical plugs and pressurewash the whole frame using a good degreaser like purple power. the engine i plan on using etching mag cleaner to get the motor shiney again.
