hot wire atv?

This kinda goes along with my rancher being stolen, my friends were discussing whether the thieves drove our 420's off after they hot wired them. Does anybody know if this could easily be done ? This makes sense because the other 4 wheeler that was pushed half way up the hill was a 07 foreman 500 with pull start and they left it with the ignition wires pulled out like they were trying to disconnect them and then pull start it to ride off. We think they got spooked when they were messing with the foreman just left it behind.

Easily done if you know what your doing. Give me a couple seconds and a needle and we're riding with no damage done to the ignition system.

I have a key cutter, takes about the same amount of time. If I was in a high theft area I would install a hidden toggle switch to the main power wire. Flip it off and they could try hot wiring it all day and get nothing accomplished. Possibly they will get tired of trying and leave it mostly unharmed or they might get pissed and set it on fire. You just never know with people these days.

I hate to say it but I might have to start pulling the key out of mine and the vehicles. I leave them in them and unlocked just in case someone needs to borrow them. Within the next year though we are going to have a drastic increase in population with the oil pipe line going through so to be safe I'll have to change my ways.

I don't get how people are so stupid in my neighborhood. Houston is too large of a city to leave your car unlocked in your driveway...AND leave your purse/wallet in there. Last set of thieves just kept walking down the streets trying doors and got lucky. I NEVER leave wallets with CC, money, etc. in there when it's locked.....even in the garage. Sorry that's a bit off topic but like TD said, you have to be aware of the changing surroundings and get smart if you want to keep your belongings.

The toggle switch sounds great but if they want it, they're gonna take it somehow. Guy's house was being broken into with their Yellow Cabs parked in the driveway and house alarm on while they were asleep. Not sure if the thieves are getting dumber or just bolder.

This past summer, my uncle was fishing on the river here in town and he lost the keys to his Foreman in the river. He hot wired it there on the river bank so he could get it home then installed a toggle switch that bypasses the ignition that tucks away up under the plastics kind of like what TooDeep was talking about.

I keep a spare key hanging on the air box clip just in case one gets lost out on the trail.

Ahh kinda neat, so you can toggle it to start or not...I keep the spare key in the truck when I go out on a trail but makes a lot more sense to keep it ON the quad or it may be a long walk.

In the "hood" I live in, theives are catching a bad case of Glock-coma! I had some young men that, I guess, needed the gas out of my truck more than I did. My Austrian friend an I caught the 2 punks. The cops laughed when I told them the one pissed himself when noticed the laser dancing across his crotch.... I always said that I'm a man of piece.
