Default Oil Leak??

I have noticed an oil leak on the backside of my 02 rancher, right on the back side of the block, but my oil level hasn't dropped, any ideas on what might be the issue??

Thanks

to the forum... We may need more info. Is it leaking, as your sitting on it, on the right or left side? At the gasket where the crankcase bolts to the rear crankcase(trans)?

it looks as though the oil is leaking where the recoil attaches, no leaks when sitting, but after running it will leak. And as I had said before there has been no change in oil level.

That's a bit common. If you like, Retorque the bolt that connect the two halves of the crankcase together. That may help, but I've read several threads about that same thing.

The seal behind the pullrope thingy, replace it, when that goes bad the mud thats been eating away at the seal will go into your motor and slowly ruin it!

Its like 5 bucks...a hour or 2 to fix, pull seat air box then pull recoil assy, under that theres a big thingy with a 17mm bolt, use an impact wrench with a BIG extension loosen that (it'll try to turn the crank) once that is loosen gently pry the seal off, get your new one, slob some grease (marine) on there and tap it in place gently, put back together, clean your pull rope assy and your done!

Or consider a block off plate or sealing up your pullrope asy.

ok, so i have finally got around to fixing this oil leak, but i cannot remove the bolt in the center (the big one). I reefed on it pretty hard and tried an impact with no luck. Anyone have any tips on getting this off. Thanks

i've always used a impact gun. with lots of air that will give you the torque burst you need.
