Default Oil in Air Filter Box

Need help! I have an 06 Rancher with 180 miles on it. The hose that is comming from the engine block into the air filter box is blowing oil out of it and that is clogging up my air filter and thus the engine cant breath and will not run. The oil level is correct, the bike sat over the winter but was crancked every month but maybe one or two. when I remove the air filter the bike will run, but the hose still blows oil out. I have cleaned the air filter, but it quickly coats wilt oil when the engine runs. Any suggestions on trouble shooting/repair needs. Like I stated the bike did sit for a couple months the oil level is correct, but have no idea on what could be causing the problem...any help is greatly appreciated.

The only time I've heard or seen that was when the oil level was too high, but you stated the level is correct.... Gonna have to do some investigation.

That's the crankcase vent line. When you have blow by around the piston it pressurizes the crankcase. Without that vent the bottom end seals would be blown out. The line is vented back into the incoming air b/c it is more environmentally friendly to reburn the partially burnt exhaust gases and oil that come out. That's what the PCV valve does on your vehicle. For some reason deisels are not regulated and you will often see a "slober tube" about the size of a garden hose hanging down in front of the front axle with a little exhaust and oil coming out.

I just cleaned my airbox and changed my filter yesterday after using it from 0-146 hours over the last 18 months. The bottom 1/8 of my filter was saturated in oil, probably a combo of a little filter oil drainage and some engine oil. I considered it perfectly healthy.

Is your saturation worse than this?

Why do you think your running problem is related to this?
-Can you see or smell burnt oil from the exhaust?
-Is your carb/intake coated in oil?
-Does your plug look fouled/dark/have build up?

The way you've described it, it seems like the oil is def the problem, just wondering (hoping) it could be a carb problem for your sake.

It seems strange for such a new bike to have excessive blow by, only 180mi, mine has 800mi easily. I'm gonna guess your rings are stuck from sitting and won't expand out to seal the cylinder, resulting in excessive blow by. But it could be something more simple, just a slightly educated wild ass guess. Before tearing it down maybe you could try some snake oil like sea foam or something. Something that says it "frees sticking rings" and "restores compression".

Come to think of it, you could do a compression test. It should have perfect compression @ 180 mi, unless you powerbraked it in one spot and did a 180 mile burn out. LOL

I have ran across a few 350 Ranchers that you had to run the oil level 1/2 between the marks on the stick and it will no longer do this. The type/weight of oil being used could also contribute to this. Are you checking the oil after you let it idle a few minutes and then let it sit a few minutes? It could be blow by but I would try running it between the marks first.

riding wheelies will cause the oil to run in crankcase vent to airbox also, just in case u like to ride on the rear wheels!

Default rancher problems

Well, I dropped the oil drain plug to drop the oil level, and to my suprise it was very thin and smelled like gasoline. I drained it all out, and now I think I may have a big problem. I have no idea what would cause this, any ideas?

I have seen this on a yami kodiak before. If I remember correctly, the float in the carb was stuck(or the gas tank vent line was clogged....dont remember.) causing gas to fill the airbox and then flow through the crankcase vent line and into the oil during storage. This raised the oil level which would cause the oil/gas mixture to blow back into the airbox.
Hope this helps.

X2 Change your oil a couple times. clean your carb a few times. When you store the bike shut the fuel off. Don't run the bike until you change the oil.
