Default 400AT trans concern

My wife has a 400AT, and lately it seems like the trans is acting up. When we take it out(before it gets warmed up), it seems at though when you take off from a stop that the trans is in a higher gear and it doesn't want to accelerate. It also feels as though a clutch is slipping or something if you hammer on the throttle hard and then it will engage. Has anyone seen any problems w/ these machines? I don't have a manual for the 400, like I do for my 500ES so I don't know if this has a clutch adjustment or not. Can the angle sensor that I see go bad so much on this forum cause these 2 concerns?

I was at the NHRA Drags this last weekend, and when I went for a ride around the camp ground on her wheeler it hit a point when I was trying to accelerate, that it wouldn't even move. I had to shift it into the ES mode and then it started to move. Thanx for any info.!!

There is another thread on something similar to what your saying, I'm going on my 3rd clutch soon... my other bike is a 400AT and someone on here said there was a recall with something about the ECM not allowing the transmission to downshift properly putting more strain on the clutch... Someone posted the steps to do a clutch stall test or something like that.. Last time I had the clutch replaced the guy at the shop told me it was the worst he had ever seen... had to replaced just about everything this time I'm fixing it and selling it, no more ATs for me

had one for 5 years done the samething your talking about, worked fine if you wanted to shift in esp, but in auto it wouldnt pull or downshift at all it was like it was in third or forth gear. I had the recall a new clutch, oil pressure checked and a new ecm installed done the same thing. I dont want anyone to take this the wrong but, get rid of it..

My rpm's don't raise when this happens. It is almost like the engine bogs under throttle and will not accelerate. It does it when you first start out after letting the engine warm up. After the engine warms up and you get some good throttles into it, the shifting seems to be ok. Is there a procedure someone can post to adjust the clutches on these, or are they none adjustable?

I just thumbed through the honda shop manual for 04-07 no adjustment on the clutch that I can see... I'd like to know if there is a way to check the flash version on the PCM to make sure I have it flashed with the most current, Like i said before someone said there was a recall with the ATs because it wasn't down-shifting like it was suppose to ... and everything I can dig up in Honda archives dont show anything for the 04-07 recall

It's an 07' 400AT. It acts up even before you go fast enough to shift. If I turn the engine off, and start out from a stop it still does it. I wish I had the manual to look all this info up.

I took it out to set my game cam this weekend, and used the ESP mode. It shifted fine the entire time. So I'm leaning twords a module reprogram should fix this if it is the lack of down shifting causing the concern? If it was a clutch concern, it should still slip in manual mode right?
