I talked to the Honda dealers tech guy on Saturday he confirmed to me that the TRX400AT 2004 was a recall I thought mine was turns out its an 05... So I told him I'm going on my 3rd clutch already and it had to be a problem that other people are seeing, he said he's on his 3rd clutch with the new PCM on his 04 rancher... I told him I'm going to fix it and sell the **** thing, he laughed and said thats probably the best bet!!! I'm done with ATs all together thinking about getting rid of my Rubicon as well once I get it back in working condition

I'm in the process of building a 400AT for the better 1/2 to ride, something a little lighter than the Rubicon she is riding now. I plan on a gear reduction for it though so I can get a little more umph out of it, possibly a big bore (if I can find one) since the cylinder is toast now, missing chunks.
Most of the problems I have had with the 400AT has been dirty shift control motors. They work fine with the esp but in auto they drag a little. |

Maybe I'm too **** hard on the things I loved the idea of the AT and its cool when your riding around with beer in hand, but just too **** complicated. How hard ya think its going to be for me to do the clutch myself toodeep without the clutch plate holder.. I think the puller might be the same I used on my rubicon

Well, I hate to read all this about the Hondamatic AT having all these problems. I really had my heart set on a new Rancher 420 AT. Looks like im gonna go with the Foreman 500 manual shift. It'll be my second one.
I had an '06 Foreman 500 4x4 and put it through the ringer. I should have my a$$ tared and feathered... |

You can not compare the 420AT to the 400AT or even the Rubicon/Rincon. The 420 is just an auto shift, it still is a gear to gear transmission.
I'll have to look in the book to say for certain if the pullers are the same. |

Have there been any known transmission problems, or anything I should be concerned about, on the new 2010 420 Rancher AT? I'm thinking about buying one this coming Friday since we don't have to pay any taxes here in Louisiana this coming weekend. There will never be a better time to buy a utility 4 wheeler for us here in LA, than this weekend...
If I don't get the Rancher AT, I'm getting a 2011 Foreman 500 ES. Thank Yall. |

No I guess I'm just soured because of this **** rancher AT going through clutches like I do underwear.. I loved it when it didnt have any problems but man this is the third clutch, TooDeep says the newer ones arent exactly the same i think he'll chime in if I'm wrong.. get it I beat the crap out of mine take it swimming thickest mud I can find.. etc etc basically ride it like I stole it.. if you just using it for everyday stuff then your probably going to love it, but I'd still get the foreman manual!!!
