Default Rancher 400AT clutch slipping

I have a 2005 rancher AT (400FA ) that I need to replace the clutch on. It is slipping after I slow down and hit the throttle again. It will downshift and grab again after I slow to almost a stop. My question is what parts should I replace when I have the clutch out? Just the weight set and scuff up the outer or should I replace the outer also and maybe the one way clutch? Should I get new clutch drive springs for the weight set? I only want to take it apart once. Thanks for any help in advance.

I had a 400 and the same thing happened to mine, i replaced everything that had too do with the clutch and it continued the slipping or not downshifting not sure what the problem was. I know when i slowed down to about 6 or 8 miles an hour and then went heavy on the throttle it was like it was stuck in a high gear 4th or 5th. coming to a complete stop and restarting was the only way to get it back into first or the low gear....

Make sure your fan is running. If the fan isn't cooling down the oil as it circulates it thins it down too much and leads to clutch slippage. After a while the whole thing will need to be replaced as the clutch will overheat and glaze over, which causes the fingers to deteriorate.

There was a Honda recall on the 400FAs that expired in '07. Units that were serviced under the recall had a punch mark alongside the VIN on the frame. During the recall the ECM was reflashed to allow the Hondamatic to downshift at lower speeds and clutches were inspected and replaced as needed. If you have one of these that the service was not performed on it will continue to have the problem until the ECM is reflashed, allowing the Rancher to downshift when traveling at low speeds.

Hmmmm Got anymore info on that recall like a certain VIN number we should look for, as for the fan I did a manual switch so when I'm not in the water or burried in mud that bad boy is running I had to re-ring once so I bored it .005 over !!!

Here's the stall test for the clutch.

A dirty shift control motor will cause problems also with it not shifting down completely when traveling at slow speeds.

When my clutch would slip it would run at a high RPM after it got hot without holding the brakes and would sit still.

The clutch is just slipping? Usually when a transmission goes bad it will bog down the machine. The one I have now was giving issues when I got it, I initialized the system and have had no problems since. The electrical side on it can give problems that will lead to the mechanical side.
